The speciality shops of Mooloolaba are to die for, with anything to be found from amazing candles, to exquisite jewellery shops and homewares. Not far from Mooloolaba are the amazing world renowned Eumundi markets with a huge array of home wares, crafts and delightful feasts to be found. If the kids are ready, head to Australia Zoo and check out all the amazing creatures, truly a worth while experience to be had. Get up close and personal with crocs, alligators and all sorts of colorful menagerie.
Back in Mooloolaba you can tour Underwater World, which is a sight to be seen as you will feel a real connection with sharks, stingrays and countless other mammals on an amazing ride that will see you just centimetres from the eye of the shark, definetly worth a look in.
On a more peaceful note, you may like to take a canal tour of Mooloolaba River, sit back, relax and take in the expanse and luxury of some of the most incredible homes in town. After you may feel like a drink at the Surf Life Saving Club which has great views right over the ocean, watch the surfers in action, all of these delights are all within walking distance of each other.
For a night of fun head down to the wharf and dine at Hogs Breath Cafe with it vibrant interior and super delicious cocktails. For you younger guys there are plenty of bars open well into the night for a little bit of dancing, and maybe some romancing.
So pack your bags and head of to this heaven on earth, fun in the sun, lounge by the pool, do nothing at all, if it suits sort of place. I highly recommend it, and promise you once visited sure to return. Bonvoyage.
Loo with a View, Sunday, 29 June 2008
Written by Di McLaren
As I emerged into the warm March morning I joined my friend.....and the view! Looking east we could see heads bobbing up and down in the surf while a para-glider dangled from a yellow and red parachute attached to a speedboat. Dozens of yachts zigzagged in the distance. In front a boy unashamedly washed sand out of his togs under the stainless steel shower while fine specimens of Australian manhood battled the waves practicing their lifesaving skills.
The platform we were standing on was part of a structure called "The Loo With a View" - the most salubrious monument to the toilet in Australia (probably the world). Built at a cost of $2.5 million the area "Gallery by the Sea", which includes the loo, has been given a national award for excellence in planning. And grand it is!
The smell of barbeques made us hungry so we decided to join the coffee set across the road for a bite to eat. As we crossed the teak stained decking I noticed the nautical theme the architects had used. Public seating in the shape of surfboards, railings made of stainless steel and the children's playground equipment in the shape of waves and shells.
Sipping a glass of wine we watched the passing parade of guys cruising in their cars behind dark sunglasses looking at us looking at them. A man with grey hair approached his huge iridescent green motorbike with a dangling stars and stripes flag and as he straddled the machine I wondered where he came from.
Our gourmet lunch eaten we decided to take another look at the view. Through a frame of pandanus, she-oaks and Norfolk pines we could see the magnificent Mount Coolum and further on was Noosa. Still marveling at the magnificence of 'the dunny' we walked back to the car we felt we had just visited one of the Sunshine coast's most famous buildings, somewhat like visiting Buckingham Palace, only 'the throne' looked slightly different.
